| | For my first post on the site I just want to express a personal belief that is 100% right (just like me)... for me... and everyone else too. Hehehehe. While on this site embrace Objectivism and take from it whatever you may find appealing, whether it be a particular article's conceptual analysis or even a single joke that is so idiotic that you cannot help but to laugh. Allowing the ignorance of another to limit you in any way whatsoever is intolerable. Permitting that same mentality to obligatorily guide your actions is an even greater injustice. I am a gay man and even if Ayn Rand looked me square in the eye and let me know exactly how she felt about homosexuals just before she spat in my face, it wouldn't deter me from pursuing her writings.
Donna Summer had a horrible rumor spread shortly after she was "born again" to the effect of her disapproving of the 'lifestyles' practiced in the Gay Community. I love her voice and her music. I always have, I always will. Other gays couldn't understand this concept of taking what you like and rejecting what you dislike. (Mmm Hmm... Prima Donna f@gs that act as though they have never dined at The Sizzler and circled the buffet islands like vultures. *scoff*) Deprive myself the hours and hours of enjoyment of an amazing voice because, by default, others perceive your musical preferences as embracing that specific artist's ideas, convictions and beliefs? How many Jews do you know that live like the Amish and refuse to touch a $100 bill? Benjamin Franklin was never strong-armed into apologizing for his very public messages published in his anti-Semitic newspaper. He made statements such as, "America has the chance to be a nation filled up with the glorious WHITE, free of all colored races..." and I would not expect non-Caucasians to live without electricity because refraining from doing so is an endorsement to all of Mr. Franklin's small-minded, primitive, @$$backwards views. (I am, oh so, very judgmental, by the way.)
The moral of the post: "When in Rome..."
Enjoy the site and be an Objectivist while you're here! I also recommend that you think of yourself as the best Jack-Mormon on the planet, when you visit a site for the Church of Latter Day Saints too. Embracing that which you do not understand or are unfamiliar with is as temporary as you wish it to be, so feel free to annul any/all of these marriages that do not work out and enjoy this acceptable form of polygamy. No matter how you look at it, you walk away with more than you had to start.
-Solo, still standing on his soap box.
